Oh what happened, I fell asleep in the circus tent
I woke up wondering where everyone went
No mom or dad or brother Lee
Just a few animals, a monkey, and me
I stretched and yawned and heard my stomach growl
Do you have any food, I asked the owl
“Who-Who?” he said and flew away
I asked the monkey if he would stay
“I’ll stay with you, friend, and share my fruit”
So we ate bananas then he played his flute
The elephant danced while the monkey played songs
The lions pranced and the seal played the gong
I jumped on the trampoline, higher and higher
The gorilla played the drums up on the high wire
A horse came around and gave me a ride
“Someone’s coming,” the monkey cried
“It’s just the zebras, they want to play”
So we let them in and they rolled in the hay
Around and around we jumped and ran
Then in came a dancing gingerbread man
“I heard there’s a party, oh what a sight!
I brought my train, we’ll ride all night.”
I jumped in the train car and round we went
The band played on as we circled the tent
Camels skipped and hopped around
While snakes drew circles on the ground
The elephant’s trunk sprayed water like a hose
I laughed as the seal bounced a ball on his nose
Then they all went quiet as the lights got bright
“A human is coming! Quick, act like it’s night”
I ran to my seat and pretended to sleep
As the animals snoozed like quiet sheep
“Thank goodness you’re here, we thought we lost you”
Mom hugged me tight as I winked at the kangaroo
“Did you have fun at the circus?” dad asked in the car
“I loved it so much. At the circus, I’m a star.”
