Want To Be A Cowboy

(A Cowgirl's Lament)

by Peg Cook and Annette Ilowiecki

I want to be a cowboy, when I grow up.

Ride a painted pony and drive a pick up truck.

Wear my faded blue jeans and leather chaps,

Denim shirt, bandanna and a Stetson hat.

Oh my spurs go jingle jangle and I spin a rope.

I round up little dogies ,”yippie ki yi yo!”

Watch an eagle soar across a sky of blue.

Hunch down on my heels and eat some camp fire stew.

Just couldn’t be a cowboy, tried to give it a whirl.

But no one would let me... ‘cause I’m a gosh darn girl.
