Christmas Joy
by Peg Cook and Annette Ilowiecki
One cold and windy Christmas Eve, a boy walked through the snow.
A tear was standing on his cheek for the home he did not know.
He had never heard the story told of the Babe in Bethlehem.
Of angels singing their sweet song; peace, good will, to men.
Nor had he talked to Santa Claus or received a Christmas toy.
And so it is no wonder that he knew no Christmas joy.
While walking through the snow, he heard a whimpering sound.
He stopped and turned and there he saw a puppy on the ground.
The boy knelt down and softly touched the shivering form.
He picked it up and held it close and both their hearts grew warm.
Though cold, they were no more alone, this puppy and the boy
For each had found in his own heart, a bit of Christmas joy.
