A Present for Beetle

by Guy Belleranti told by Cecil

“What are you carrying, Spider?” Worm asked.

“Leaves wrapped in one of my webs,” Spider replied. “It’s a birthday present for Beetle.”

“Oh dear!” Worm cried. “I didn’t get Beetle anything.”

"You can be the ribbon,” Spider said. “Wrap yourself around the present.”

“Great idea!” Worm said. “I’d love to be a ribbon.”

Soon Butterfly flew by. “What are you carrying, Spider?” she asked.

“A birthday present for Beetle,” Spider said.

“What is it?” Butterfly asked.

“Leaves wrapped in one of my webs. Worm is the ribbon.”

“Can I be something, too?” Butterfly asked.

Spider smiled. “You can be the bow.”

“Oh yes!” Butterfly wagged her wings. “I would make a wonderful bow.”

Beetle’s house was just ahead.

Spider handed Beetle the present.

“Happy Birthday, Beetle!” they all shouted.

“Wow!” Beetle looked at Spider. Then he looked at Worm and Butterfly and the web wrapped present.

“Open it!” cried Worm.

“I hope you like it,” Spider said.

“I wish we had more than one present to give you,” Butterfly added.

Beetle smiled. “But you do. Friends like you three are the best presents of all!”
