 Short Story Submission Guidelines

We are always interested in new short stories.  If you have authored short stories that entertain and/or lift, we would love to hear from you.  StoriesThatLift.com is a family oriented site with content for children, youth, and adults. We will only consider stories we consider to be child-safe. Child-safe is a judgment we make that a story is safe for children to read.

Submit your manuscript to:  tomq@storiesthatlift.com 

  • Include your name, address, email address, and phone number in the header on each page

  • We prefer Times New Roman, double space, one inch margins - MS WORD, text, or RTF files are preferred

  • Include a brief bio with writing credits

  • Include the theme or categories you feel appropriate to your story

  • We will read your story and respond within 2 months

We want great stories:  At StoriesThatLift.com we are looking for great short stories and great storytellers.  Our goal is to make StoriesThatLift the best site for down loading short stories that entertain and lift in a family environment.  We are now accepting manuscripts from new and established authors and storytellers.

What we want:  Stories between 50 and 7,500 words.

  • True Stories and Based on True Stories

  • Science Fiction/Fantasy

  • Rhyming Stories

We pay:

  • $5 to $20 (US) paid on publication for the written story

  • $5 (US) paid on publication for the audio story

User Submitted Material We will publish accepted material on the Stories That Lift website.  All material accepted for publication by StoriesThatLift.com is available for use by Potential Heights LLC, the company that owns StoriesThatLift.com.  The minimum payment for accepted stories is $5.  When we judge a particular story to have strong potential to be included in books or cd's we may publish for sale, we will offer a higher payment to a maximum of $20.  The author retains the copyright to the material, but has granted Potential Heights LLC the right to publish it.  We do not retain any exclusive right to use – that is, the author may use the material in any way they see appropriate and legal.  

By submitting your story to us, you grant us the non-exclusive, royalty-free right to publish it on StoriesThatLift.com, in books, or audio form.  You also grant the users of StoriesThatLift.com the right to use the audio and written version of the story for  personal, non-commercial use.  StoriesThatLift.com or Potential Heights LLC may publish some stories in written and/or audio form for sale.  The authors and storytellers of these stories will be recognized with bylines and brief bios.

All users who plan to submit material to StoriesThatLift.com should review the copyright page before submission.  Before you submit any written document you are agreeing that you authored the short story and currently have the copyright to the story content.

Send us an email before submitting the audio version of your story.  Give us some insight into what the story is about before submitting the audio version.  If your story is accepted for publication we will communicate with you about the audio content of the story.  Your initial submission should simply be the written story or an email describing the audio story you want to submit.
