Privacy

It is our intent to have quality stories in a family safe environment on StoriesThatLift.  We collect only enough information to help satisfy our users.  We safeguard and protect information you provide.  We do not want addresses for children – we expect families to monitor their children’s use of the computer.  Our policies on collecting information are described below.

We ask that all communications with us be conducted by an adult.  While some children will undoubtedly find StoriesThatLift to be a site they like and use, we do not want to collect any information from children.  Our policy is clear – we only want to communicate with adults.

Control of Information StoriesThatLift is owned by Potential Heights LLC.  All information collected by StoriesThatLift is controlled by Potential Heights .  Privacy issues can be addressed to tomq@storiesthatlift.com.

Some of our Web pages include links to external Web sites outside the control of Potential Heights LLC. Be aware that when you follow a link to another site, you are then subject to the privacy policies of the new site.  These non-Potential Heights sites will likely have different privacy policies.

Feedback When you provide StoriesThatLift feedback, we do not require your email address, unless you desire us to respond to your feedback.  We do not collect any email addresses for purposes of providing them to other companies. 

Automatic Collection for information: All visitors to the StoriesThatLift site will automatically have certain information saved so that we can understand who uses the website.  This information is then used to improve our website.  The following information is automatically collected:

> date and time the site is entered
> the originating IP address (the number assigned to your computer when accessing the Web)
> the type of browser and operating system used (if provided by the browser)
> the URL of the referring page (if provided by the browser)
> any objects requested
> whether the request was completed
> pages visited

In many cases a particular IP address will only indicate in which geographic region the computer is located.

How is this information used?  We automatically collect information to measure the number of visitors to the web pages on our site.  We use this information to help us make the StoriesThatLift more useful to our visitors.  We analyze the logs created automatically to determine the traffic on our servers, the pages viewed, and the demand for specific pages and topics within the website. 

How long do we retain this information? Each log may be saved over long periods of time to help us track security issues and improve integrity of the data on our site.

Safeguarding your personal information We retain only the information we feel is essential to satisfying our visitors.  We do not share any information provided by our visitors to any other company.

Email If a visitor to our site sends us an email, we retain only the information needed to respond to the visitor and address any issues raised through the correspondence.

Visitors may send us stories or other material for consideration in publishing on our website.  We review the material submitted and make a determination whether we will publish it on StoriesThatLift.  It is our intent to respond to each submission to let them know whether we intend to publish their material.  All submissions must be made electronically.  We do not retain files containing materials not selected for publication.

While email is not a secure medium – that is, email might be intercepted or misdirected – it is our intent to use email as a primary means of receiving and sending communications.  It is our policy not to correspond with minors.  Any email used to correspond with us should belong to and be written by an adult. 

User Submitted Material We encourage users to send us written and audio short stories.  Specific guidelines are provided on the StoriesThatLift website.  We will publish accepted material on the StoriesThatLift website.  All material accepted for publication by Stories That Lift is available for use by Potential Heights LLC.  We may re-publish accepted material without communicating with those who originally submitted the material.  The author retains the copyright to the material, but has granted Potential Heights the right to publish it.  We do not retain any exclusive right to use – that is, the author may use the material in any way they see appropriate and legal.  All users who plan to submit material to StoriesThatLift should review the copyright page before submission.

Cookies StoriesThatLift does use cookies. Cookies are small files that Web servers place on user’s computer system. Cookies generally:

> allow the website to identify previous visitors;
> track what information on the website was viewed;
> track a visitors movements through many websites but not the whole Web;
> allow customers to retain a list of items they request from a site to allow resolution of these items all at one time (for instance, purchase and payment of items from the site);
> allow advertisers to determine the effectiveness of their marketing and offer insights into consumer preferences and tastes by collecting data from many websites; and
> allow a website to customize screens to each customer’s preference.

For those concerned about the potential use of information gathered through cookies, you can set your browser to prompt before it accepts a cookie.  Most browsers allow settings that can identify and/or reject cookies.

Jurisdiction StoriesThatLift and Potential Heights LLC operate in the Unites States.  Any litigation or dispute will be settled in the appropriate US courts of law.

Future change of privacy policy This Policy was established February 9, 2008.  If any changes to this policy are adopted, we will post notice on the StoriesThatLift website.
